Mabbe an other hidden option "All of the above".

The thing which told me that am a grown up now, is well!! Something silly, Nooo actually something cute.

As a child I had loved this movie Edward Scissorhand. And that impression stayed on for a very long time as one of the best movie made ever. Until recently when my husband asked me to order some good movie on netflix which we are a member of now. So I remembered how much I had enjoyed Edward Scissorhand movie as a child so ordered it. I pepped up my husband saying, you will actually thank me for recommending you this movie and blah and blah.. (You know sometimes I can be blah)

Ten minutes into the movie OMG what is this? Am not enjoying this at all. Infact I started digging my brains to come up with counter arguments which will definitely happen with S. Am sure he will make fun of me. I rack my brains and come up with "I played a prank" but shoo it away because his counter argument will be much more stronger as to why would I go to this extent. When am having all these arguments in my head , S is looking at me and going hahahahah "You and your recommendations" :( .. Thats when I realised, The movie which gave me so much pleasure back then is boring me... Oh man !! Where did time go now?? Am all grown up :(.. Miss you childhood :( . I realised that I am one, What about you??

A day with TV

Do we still consider TV as the idiot box?

Being affected by the current economy and sitting idle without a job. Thought to dedicate a day to TV. Hmm I just did not realise that time just flies by when you are in front of it.

Early morning at around 8:00am I switched on the Idiot Box for some magical fun. Yeah literally. There is this show called

"Charmed"

about these 3 sisters "witches" and their everyday life along side with demons, goblins and angels. Its from 8:00-10:00am yeah 2 hrs of magic fun. From 10:00-11:00am

Ellen degeners Talk Show..

I hope I got her name right. Man she was entertaining with her tiny little game shows and her guest being themselves without any dialogue delivery. Was fun to watch her bring out the best in people. 11:00am came, time for some surfing so was switching back and forth with

"the view"
ie Barbara, Whoopi and three other girls talk about current affairs and have a guest who is involved with them,
"MTV"
some ongoing latest songs. Oh Now am a fan of Ne-Yo 'Miss Independant" and Lady Gaga " Just Dance". At 12:00 time for some family values

"Full house"

A serial about a father raising his 3 daughters by taking help of his best friend Joey and his cool dude brother-in-law Uncle Jesse. its about an hour. So after an hour of Full-House, being all touched and conscious about not giving my time to family called up my sister, mother and husband. So that was the break I took to cook, clean, talk and eat.

At 2:00 I was back. Now it was time for more magic. Since childhood I was into Archie-comics and there is a character in that series called

"Sabrina - the teenage witch"

who has magical powers. Based on that cartoon character there is a TV show which airs from 2:00-3:00pm. Its all about this teenager Sabrina who has to manage her day to day life with learning magic at home, learning physics, math etc at her school, boy friend and cheerleaders whom she detests. 3:00 -4:00pm was time for some news

CNN, FOX and BBC-news.
Here I got to know that a)Mr US elected President Obama should not carry his blackberry after he gets into the whitehouse for some security purposes, b)California fires are doing a great deal of damage, c)Automobile Giants GM, Ford and Chrysler want to be bailed our or else 13 million jobs are at stake and d)Weather will get further cold. After this heavy feeding on news thought to check entertainment again 4:00-5:00

"what I like about you"

is about these sisters Jenni Garth and Amanda Bynes where Jenni is in her late 20's who is looking for love and managing career at the same time and Amanda is a teenager who is going to school and having petty fights with her friends and boy friends. After that light comedy time for some kicking demon butt. Yes-

again 5:00 to 6:00.

6:00-7:00 "Everybody Loves Raymond"

a comedy serial. Sometimes I can relate to my ownlife. Its about this Goofed up sweet character Raymond ,his wife Debra and 3 kinds, Raymond's mother Marie (character in herself), dad and Raymond's brother who is jealous of Ray for everything that he is. 7:00-8:00 Sienfeld. Oh man this is so hilarious. Its about this guy Jerry Sienfeld and his 3 unique friends and their life. I cant say much about this cause anything I say would be too little and wont do justice to the show.

8:00 - 9:00 Family Guy.

What can I say hahahahaha.. You should watch it to understand what I was saying. Its about this Fat Guy named Peter and his funny family.. Love the baby Stewie in this series. Hmm

9:00 to 11:00 watch news,

cook, all together. a)Learnt if the automobile idustry is not bailed put the amount of people coming out will be equal to people living in Kentucky, North Carolina and hmmmmm " fill in blank" . b)Economy just going down, Obama saying that he will do something with the economy in 100 days. c)Stock marker falling crazily. Sadest story was a second hand crysler being sold for $1. d)8yr old involved in killing and again e)weather "COLD".

11:00pm exhausted. What did I do all day? Just watched some TV. But still managed to watch

Sienfeld and Family Guy

together till 11:30pm. By this time my eyes are sore so fell asleep on the couch.

Today morning woke up. All refreshed and thought should I do it again. Do I have it in me? Naah. But one thing changed ie my opinion towards TV. Not an idiot box but a Friend :)because it taught me family values, entertained me for so long, told me about current affairs soooo am I wrong here?

Shah Rukh Khan

DDLJ, KKHH, Devdas and what not. So many movies, so many awards such a respected man in Indian cinema.

Can one think how much money he makes? I cannot but yes can say a LOT. Since am fascinated by Financial Market was wondering how much tax does Indian govt make from just Shah Rukh Khan alone apparently

Shocking but Shah Rukh Khan intelligent that he is, has a company in his name outside India and he basically says that he is working for his own company as a consultant. By working as a consultant to that company he basically asks all the producers to pay him through that company. This is because According to Indian taxation laws any money received outside India on entertainment is exempted from tax. So here Shah Rukh Khan is getting all the money but is not paying any tax to the govt. Suprisingly when people know about this why is there no action taken against it.

Hah funny thing is this man goes on singing in his movie "Phir bi Dil hai Hindustani" Kaha yaar Tax baro tab bolenge tera he dil hindustani.

The Great M.F.Husain

Really is the word which strikes me when I hear his name and Does he deserve it?

Why? why? why?

M.F Husain born September 17th, 1915 is famous for his paintings. According to Forbes magazine, he has been called the "Picasso of India".Recently he has become more controversial. Reason as follows

Paintings of Hindu Gods and Godesses and Mother India all naked. Hindu Gods and Godesses and Mother India why? why are they all naked? Why should he depict the belief, the respect, the BHAKTI all naked? Why cant they be clad as Hindus see them. Complete adorned in beautiful silk clothing with gold and gem jewellry. Does he think that by potraying God naked it made the painting look beautiful? How less beautiful will it be with more colours and decency. All I can say is that it is art of Pornography by giving diety name.

What surprises me is "at this age" is it the only thing he could think of and paint? How about something which gives some meaning into life, how about just the picture of a waterfall, sunset. Is there a shortfall of topics. How about the cruelty animals face, how about the cruelty towards mother nature.

Cant answer this question WHY?/

Off the recession

Lucky that I am,

I entered the United Sates with a work visa, 2+ years of Mortgage sub-prime loans experience at that point of time my career was looking all bright and shiny. So once the eligibility card ie EAD (Employment Authorisation Card)was sent in I got the feeling of a winner already but "IT HAPPENED". Big companies who played in the sub prime market like UBS, Lehman Brothers, New Century, Citi Groups all started either laying off people or declaring millions of losses (again reminding me of my luck ). But not disheartened I went on applying for multiple jobs but unfortunately no reply. As my friend puts it in a funny way "apply apply no reply".

So this made me an avid follower of the News (never that I was). I started wondering as to what and who will do something about the recession which looked like to set in. Then just recently they said that the FED is changing the interest rates. This kind off sent me into a flashback into my college days where i had studied ways to come out of a recession. So I started my research on it so here are some of the ways by which recession can be taken care by the govt.

There are mainly 3 ways which I Found

-> Reserve Requirement
-> Discount Rate
-> Open market Operations.

But before going into the main ways of coming out, let me tell you about recession. Recession is a phase of Economic cycle where Unemployment is soaring(eg:me here, laid off people and new entrants into the market) , purchasing power of an individual is going down (eg:laid off people), prices of goods and services goes up (eg: Oil).
So the bottom underlying problem is the money supply by the FED is not matching with the demand for it. So here comes the way to tackle it.

Reserve Requirement:
All commercial banks, savings, checkings etc all of them have this rule that a certain percentage of money should be held back as reserves with the FED. That which cannot be either used for lending or any other operations. This basically is an amount sacrificed by the banks into the FED.

Coming to this as a measure, under recession the FED relaxes the percentage money on reserves to be kept aside by banks and hands over the addional money over the percentage received back to the Banks for lending purpose which has a multiplier effect. By doing so Banks have more money to lend so there motive is not to make more money here so they charge a very little interest rate on the borrower of money resulting in more consumption power by individuals, Businessmen Invest more (because of the less interest rate charged) creating more employment and slowly the purchasing power of the currency picks up.

Discount Rate:

This is where the Fed or Central Bank lend out money to other Banks at a discounted rate. This helps all the other Banks to lend more money but at a less interest rate, by doing so consumers have more money to buy more goods and services..increasing demand, Businessmen supply by investing more and employing more people to equal the supply so likewise it has the same affect as which happened in "Reserve Requirement" controlling the economy before it goes into recession.

Open Market Operations:

This is most widely used measure where the FED goes on buying securities inducing money into the market and money travels from one hand to another resulting a lift from recession.. The opposite will be done in case of Inflation.

I googled the meaning of change and got this

Well one can say well said or is that all?

Lets see the change I went through during the past year.

I started 2007 with my enagement getting fixed. Let me get this in detail.

It was december 15th 2006 and I was busy in my room reading a novel " Digital Fortress" that I had bought earlier that day and my mother walks into my room with the her cell phone in one hand and a sly smile on her face. I say "what mother" and she says "speak to the person on the line" and leaves the room with words trailing behind her saying "he is a boy who wishes to meet you over a cup of coffee in the nearest coffee shop". So am there sitting wondering who is this guy who wants have coffee with me and why is my mother in such hurry to leave the room?

I look at the cell phone in my hand and decide to find out what was all that about? and say Hello into the phone and immediately from the other side there comes a Hi. Though I knew I would get a response but still jolted because I was talking to a stranger. Did my mother know that I was talking to a stranger?

Then the person went on. "Hi, How are you? I say am fine How about you? After exchanging our greetings. The man from the other side says "So Roopa do you want to meet up for a cup of coffee tomorrow". Still taken aback I put thought to it saying howcome mother wants me to talk to this stranger then in a flash it flashed to me that, May be this is the guy whom my mother was discussing with my sister for me as a suitable GROOM. Having realised this, the next few words which I spoke were with utmost care. So I said Ok and so the venue and time was decided. Then I went into the living room where my parents were eagerly looking for me to summarise the conversation. So I told them that I am meeting this guy at the nearest coffee shop at 4:00pm. So my dad then says I am not letting my daughter go and meet this guy alone so it was later decided that my mother would come along and based on the guy's behaviour would stay back with me or head home.

Next day I am ready with my jean on and my sister tells me, cmon the guy is from US he might be tired of seeing people in jeans take it off and wear a salwar kameez. Without even realising am changing into my new salwar that I had bought to impress this guy with whom I had like a 2 minute of conversation. So me and my mother get into the car and head to the meeting point. On reaching there we could not figure as to which was the guy we were looking out for considering the number of people in Bangalore. So I call him up and he says that he is in front of a temple with a phone in his hand. So i locate him and when i looked at him, first thing i see is that the "suitable groom" is in blue jean and blue t-shirt? blue and blue hmmmm. So we turn around the car and pick him up to go to the nearest coffee shop. All through the ride mother is having a conversation with the "suitable groom" figuring whether he is good for her to go back home or stay back with me. As for me I was enjoying the conversation and smiling to myself about mother's plight. On reaching the coffee shop mother was grinning ear to ear. So here I realised am staying back ALONE. So there we have a pleasent conversation and in a month's time we are engaged and next day he flying back to America only to meet me next on marraige day three months later.

After getting engaged life changed, every day I used to be awoken by an International call so there was no need for my alarm clock which silently sat next to my bedside. After that I would rush to office only to receive another international call asking" you reached safely, had breakfast". After that day progressed slowly in office, same old work and same old people and same old talk. On reaching home I would be greeted by the sweet cries of my new born nephew. After playing, pampering, changing his diaper and getting my hair pulled would be time for my fiance's call for the night. Oh we talked about the moon and the stars Nope we spoke mostly about my Visa to the US, career and my COOKING LESSONS.

Then one day I see myself adorned in a saree, all dressed up just to realise that those 3 months were over and now it was the time for marraige. 8 days later was in a new continent and with a new status from SINGLE to MARRIED and EMPLOYED to UMEMPLOYED but nevertheless happy with a man to treasure and his family so nice.

9 months later am here blogging abou it. Changes :-) oh yeah changes
